Crocheted Rainbow Flag Amigurumi
Happy Pride Month, everyone! The rainbow flag which is flown in honor of Pride Month has a special meaning for each color:
Red - Life
Orange - Healing
Yellow - Sunlight
Green - Nature
Royal Blue - Serenity
Violet - Spirit
Although not a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I do identify as an ally and am proud to be one! Spread a bit of love this month by whipping up your own Pride Flag Amigurumi. Happy crocheting!
Materials Needed:
G Hook
Yarn in 6 different colors (I utilized leftover yarn I had in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Royal Blue and Purple)
Black yarn (small amount for the smile)
White yarn (small amount used for the border)
Plastic Safety Eyes (I used size 8mm)
Stitch markers (I use large lobster clasps [commonly used for jewelry]… they’re inexpensive and work great!)
Scissors
Larger embroidery / tapestry needle (for weaving in your ends)
Abbreviated terms:
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
Pattern:
Starting with red yarn, ch 21, hdc in 2nd ch from hook
1: hdc 20 across foundation chain, at end ch 1 and turn (20)
2: hdc 20, at end ch 1 and turn, switching to new yarn (20)
3 - 12: Repeat row 2, switching yarn colors every 2 rows (20)
Rows 2-3: Red
Rows 4-5: Orange
Rows 6-7: Yellow
Rows 8-9: Green
Rows 10-11: Royal Blue
Rows 12-13: Purple
Once you’ve finished the second purple row, fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat rows 1-12 again so you have two flag sides. Choose one flag side to have your face. I inserted my eyes between the yellow and green rows, 5 stitches apart. Feel free to choose different placement if you desire! I also used a little bit of black yarn to make a small smile between the two green rows.
Now we’ll be stitching the two sides of the flags together. Starting a little to the left of the top-middle of the flags, I made sure that the two sides were aligned, wrong sides together. Ch 1 with the white yarn between both sides of the flag and begin single crocheting around the edge, making sure to do 3 sc in each corner. I wound up doing around 2 single crochets in each color along the shorter sides and 18 single crochets along the longer sides. If you think that your edging is not lying flat, decrease or increase the number of single crochets as necessary. I began stuffing my flag once I was on the last side, with around 8 stitches left, which I completed once stuffed. Sl st into first sc, fasten off and weave in ends.
And your pride flag is done! Flash this little guy to demonstrate your pride as a member of the lgbtq+ community or as an ally… and have a fantastic pride month!
Best,
